Woody Brown was a "Can Do" kind of man in a town that always has had a "Can Do" spirit.  When you needed it done...for the community...for the Jaycees...for United Way...or for The Chamber...you went to Woody.

He was a doer...not a talker...in fact, he really worked best behind the scenes...whether as a Rocky Mount Blackbird football player...or an Airborne Ranger in Vietnam...or a business leader at Autumn Corporation...Woody was, in today's vernacular, "The Man."

The winner of this year's Woody Brown Award is his mirror image.  Behind the scenes with the Boys and Girls Club, the First Presbyterian Church, and the Small Business Committee of the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce, he leads the way.

His work for The Chamber has included design and facilitation of several surveys.  His expansion of the Small Business program to incorporate monthly recognition and highlighting these successes throughout the year, has brought a new dimension and a new energy to the Small Business Division.

Most recently, it was his leadership that was instrumental in the implementation of the successful Reach Out Rocky Mount/Fun Run for Charities program.  This event was recently formed to trumpet a mission of One City, One Goal, Supporting all Non-Profit Charities.  The inaugural event raised $253,266 - every dollar passed on to local non-profits.  it was his work that brought us the Reach Out Rocky Mount Community Calendar, providing a long-needed service to the entire community.

A "Can Do" man, indeed.  That's one way to describe Lige Daughtridge, this year's recipient of the Woody Brown Award.
